Drink Du Jour: Green Smoothie

8:04 AM

Everyone knows greens are good for you, and it seems a lot of people are forsaking the scrambled eggs or cereal for breakfast and starting the day with a lean, green smoothie. Am I the only one not on the juicing bandwagon these days? It just seems like a whole new expensive piece of kitchen equipment I won't really use all that much, so I like that this recipe is blender-friendly. My friend Becca did a 'green drink' cleanse a few weeks ago, and she nearly gagged every time she took a sip of her liquid concoction. Apparently the kale and lemon made for one extremely bitter, nasty drink. I believe it 100%. This recipe looks like it has plenty of naturally sweet stuff in it....should make sipping and slimming down a whole lot more enjoyable. Another bonus of this recipe? The carotenoids found in kale are the bomb diggity for your skin...prepare to get glowing.

Ingredients:
1 cup cleaned spinach leaves, firm packed
1 cup cleaned kale, rough chop, firm packed
1 cup green seedless grapes
1 Bartlett pear, core, stem and seeds removed
1 orange, peeled and quartered
1 banana, peeled
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1⁄2 cup water
2 cups ice

  2. Yum! I've totally been into juicing after I watched the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Definitely made me think more about what I was putting into my body.
